LSE MODEL UNITED NATIONS

#TEAMLSE

Model United Nations is a unique form of academic debate where participants take on the roles of diplomats at a United Nations conference, and discuss important political, social, economic and cultural issues. However, Model UN involves more than just public speaking skills; delegates must also demonstrate high levels of diplomacy, lobbying, negotiation and policy-writing, as well as quality research skills and awareness of international affairs.

Model UN conferences recognise outstanding delegates for their performance both in formal debates, and more informal negotiation settings. TeamLSE, the LSE’s Model United Nations team, have been awarded 42 awards over 4 conferences in the last year, demonstrating our impressive standard of training and performance.

Refining the skills required to compete at Model United Nations conferences requires dedication and practice; we hold training sessions once a week in the autumn term, and twice in the spring term. Senior society members train and advise our delegates in the public speaking, lobbying and negotiation skills needed to succeed both in debate and in a professional environment.

While our training is rigorous and stretches our delegates’ academic tenacity and diplomatic fluency, it’s also vital that participation remains accessible to UNSOC members from all backgrounds, with all levels of experience. We organise ‘give it a go’ sessions, where we simulate a full conference to train beginner delegates; our first this year welcomed over a hundred participants.
