UNSOC EVENTS

Welcome Events

Each year UNSOC begins by reaching out to new students at LSE (“Freshers”) at the annual Freshers’ Fair, where they are introduced and inducted into the societies and communities which play the largest roles in their student life. With over 1500 freshers attending each year from over 148 countries, this is often our first contact with incoming students.

In the following weeks, we put on “Give it a Go” events to give incoming students a taste of what UNSOC has to offer. These events for the coming year will include a careers panel, a student lead workshop, and a day-long introduction to Model UN.

Awareness Week

Our yearly awareness-focused flagship event gives our members the opportunity to dive into a specific international issue over 5 consecutive days. Collaborating with a range of other societies, awareness week is made up of a combination of speaker events, workshops, and socials, and aims to give society members acute insight into a pressing global issue.

Last year, the event focused on International Peace and Security, and the society was able to hear from the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean Pierre Lacroix.

Alumni Fair

The UNSOC Alumni Fair is one of our most significant events as it gives our members the opportunity to meet former LSE and UNSOC members who now work in the United Nations. We are able to represent over 10 different United Nations agencies, allowing our members to experience the multitude of causes the UN supports.

You will get the opportunity to network with the alumni, hearing their experiences of the organisation and gaining valuable advice on UN applications.

London Diplomacy Ball

London’s leading social event for students interested in diplomacy is a multi-society and multi-university collaboration. Inviting 700 students to share an evening of formal dress and good food, the event provides a fantastic opportunity to meet people of similar interests, and contributes to creating a tight-knit community within London diplomacy. After being cancelled in 2020, the event returned in 2021 and we hope to continue to grow and improve the event for years to come.
